UserTesting, Product Overview
There are multiple ways to make money online and an interesting way to do that is by testing websites. UserTesting is one such website where you actually get to do that. The good thing about it is that it is totally free to sign up and you never have to worry about paying them anything.
In order for you to get paid though, you do need to provide a PayPal address as they do pay weekly. You’re probably wondering how much they will pay in order to test websites online and if they will actually pay. I can say with complete certainty that they will pay you and I can also confidently say that UserTesting is not a scam. However, it’s not necessarily a walk in the park either of making a lot of money on this site and I will talk more about that further in the review so read on about my full take of UserTesting.com.
Signing Up
It is pretty easy to sign up and create an account at UserTesting. When you first come to their website, you’ll see a number of different options or places to click at the top of the page. You’ll see selections such as Platform, Solutions, Customers, Partners, Resources, and finally, Get Paid to Test. You can also scroll down the front of the page to find out more information about the site and then come up to the site map at the bottom.
In order to start making some money at UserTesting, you’ll want to click on Get Paid to Test. Now what’s interesting is when you click on it and go to that page, it says you can earn up to $60 per test in 3 easy steps. Sounds simple enough right? There’s an option to immediately put in your email address and then you’ll have to agree to the terms and conditions and click the sign me up button.
If you don’t want to do that quite yet, you can scroll down and read the section titled “How it works”. It tells you that you’ll get $10 to PayPal for every 20-minute video that’s completed. There’s even a 2-minute video that shows you exactly how it works. Still sounds good to you? If so, keep on reading.
The Tasks
To make money at UserTesting, you need to complete the tasks that are assigned which are basically tasks where you test out websites and share your thoughts as you are testing them or exploring them. I will tell you this though, while it may sound like a fairly easy task to complete, it’s just getting qualified to even be able to them that’s the tough part.
I haven’t been a member of UserTesting for very long and it took me awhile to even be able to get one of those tasks completed. I was lucky as one popped up to where I didn’t have to take a screening qualification to see if I would be able to do the task or not.
The task required me to go to Google and search for the term “poster-maker”. I then needed to find the best looking option available and then make an account with the option I chose. After that was completed, I then needed to create a poster for a so called talent show. I needed to show how I would go about printing one then send it to committee members (if they were real). As I was doing all of these things, I would speak into the microphone that I have attached to my PC and let it be known what I was thinking as I was doing this task.
They do have a recorder that records everything you say and once you’re fully done with everything, it is automatically uploaded and sent in for review. Since this was my first time doing one of these tasks, I had to get an official review before I could have the chance to do any other tasks. The review overall went well as I ended up getting 4 out of 5 stars. Some things they said that I could improve on were that I need to explain my thoughts more. Asking questions and adding comments will help clarify what I’m thinking. The more I explain why I do certain things the more my video/audio recording will be more useful to the customer.
There are other methods of doing these tasks besides just a PC or laptop. Some of the tests/tasks are also available via their mobile app which you can get on either an iPhone or Android phone.
Getting Paid
I mentioned earlier that you will get paid for completing each test and that will always be a minimum of $10. I did get paid for completing my first test and UserTesting pays weekly, via PayPal. After I completed my first test, I was able to get my first $10 from UserTesting and the great thing about them is that there is no minimum balance needed in order to cash out.
Now you might be wondering if there are any other things you can do to earn more than just the $10 that is standard to UserTesting. The answer to that is yet as some of the tests will actually require to join a live video conference that can last at least an hour or more. Those typically pay out at least $60 so there is a great chance to earn some more at this site.
I’ve seen a few instances where the pay is $30 to $40, but for those kinds of tasks it usually stands at $60. I haven’t tried for one of those yet just because of the time requirement for it and I also don’t have a web cam on my desktop PC. I am looking into possibly getting one in the future so that might change.
UserTesting is reliable on payment as I saw firsthand after completing my first test. You’ll get paid every Friday into your PayPal account so no need to worry about not getting paid. If there are issues with it though you can always contact their customer support.
Final Thoughts About UserTesting: Is It a Scam?
I can definitely say that UserTesting is not a scam. With that being said though, I’m not ready to call it a very reliable way to earn money online. The reason I’m saying that is because it is incredibly difficult to get qualified for any of the testing on this site, at least if you’re a beginner.
I imagine if you were to get qualified for more tests and your ratings are high, chances are it’ll be easier to qualify for more tests. As of this time, it has not been great for me as nearly all the tests I’ve applied for I have had to take screeners to where it always says that I do not qualify.
I don’t know if these companies are looking for specific types of people to test their websites are products, but they’ve made it difficult to qualify for them, but I will keep trying. As I’ve said earlier, I’ve successfully qualified for one and was able to complete it and get paid so if I did it once, I can certainly do it again. I have a feeling though it will take me awhile.
UserTesting in my opinion is not a long term solution to earning money especially when it comes to scaling up, but if you’re able to qualify for the tests and complete the successfully, the $10 here and there can be nice for things such as eating out at a restaurant or going to a movie. Is there something that I recommend where you can earn a full time income in the long term and always scale it up?
My Recommendation
There are lots of way to make money online, some offer short term and small payouts while there are ways to make a long term sustainable income online. It’s not something that will be done overnight and will take time, but if you have the dedication to see it through and are willing to learn, then there is a place online where you’ll be able to learn how to create a thriving online business.
That place is Wealthy Affiliate and the training is absolutely superb. There is a reason I keep suggesting it and if you want to find out more about it, just click the link below here and read my review. It’s community is constantly growing as there are people wanting to change their lives for the better and get out of the 9-5 job lifestyle.
The things you learn at Wealthy Affiliate will open doors to you that you didn’t even know were closed. Again, read my review and then go check it out. You can try it out for free for 7 days and you’re never under any obligation to enter a credit card. Check it out!

nice-looking site and very good and informative review about UserTEsting. There are hundreds of this kind of online task sites and I have a pretty similar experience of all of them, it’s annoying hard to get qualified to make those tasks to get paid. For me, it says “non-us, unapproved”. For my US friends, it says something different excuses. However, it’s great to have this kind of site and articles like yours before people wasting their time or even money for programs and products that are not worth the time or money. Thanks for sharing this!

In my opinion, it is just a time waster. It is not a scam as if you DO get qualified and successfully complete the test, you will definitely get paid as I have that one that I completed and got paid the $10 on the day they promised. I have not been able to get qualified for another test since then which is quite annoying.

I was so excited when I first signed up for User Testing. I thought it would be a great way to make some extra money quickly and easily. I love to talk, and I like sharing my thoughts, so how could I lose? I went out and bought myself a headset with a microphone on it, and I never got a job. Every single one, I’d fill out the pre-qualifier and not quality. It became so frustrating and infuriating I stopped trying. Done!
I see your Number 1 recommendation was Wealthy Affiliate. Now, that is a program that I have had great success with. I work on my affiliate websites full-time, and it’s awesome! That is one program I can’t say enough good things about!

I’m glad you know exactly what I’m talking about with UserTesting! It is so frustrating to sign up only to get turned down again and again for each opportunity that becomes available. What is the point if you can’t even get qualified? Out of the many times I’ve tried, I’ve only got that one test I was able to try and complete.
